« on: April 17, 2015, 11:49:59 AM »

I used a JN rebuilt classic bearing and the tjn mod and his suggested lenco mat glued to th platter.I used super77 contact glue which enables one to remove the mat if you wish. The plinth is JN,s suggested layers of mdf and baltic birch. The top is cherry veneer and the sides are antique quarter sawn oak and the front and back are antique cuban mahogany. The arm is a audiomods kit arm and the venerable Zu 103.The sound is dead quiet and great bottom end with prat prat prat.I like it a lot

The p to take it to the plinth is 25.5 inches wide by 21.5 inches deep.I have not actually weighed the beast but a half sheet of mdf and a half sheet of baltic birch are close to 80 lbs. and the turntable is maybe 10 pounds and the rest of the wood is about 5 pounds-so about 95 lbs.It is not easy to carry but is very dead if you tap on it.I am going take it to the local audiophile store and I will have to do more exercise in order to do so.It seems that high end retailers really don,t want to hear about the Lenco high quality sound as they would lose their sales of ultra expensive high profit not as good products.I was in the business for awhile and it is based on at least 40% profit from the retail price.

That's a real beast!
And I like the blue you chose for your top-plate!

Thanks for the nice comments.I emailed Jean many times and used his input to make my version of his classic Lenco and it is all he said it would be.I bought another lenco and would like to build a ultimate ptp5 turntable when I learn th best way to approach that project.I is all fun and does not cost all that much.
When I get the time and energy to take it to the audio shop for an audition I will post the results.

I repair and refinish antiques for a living as well as other things so the finish I often use is a mixture of minwax poly wipe on finish and minwax durathane to make it more durable and achieve the luster I wish.I think it looks good and is durable and hand rubbed.

Hello Steffend:
Yes I did completely fill in the underside of the top plate.I used PL Premium as a glue which is a polyurethane construction adhesive which I used to glue mahogany pieces of wood milled to the correct thickness to fill the underside of the plate.Ant voids were filled with the adhesive and it made the top plate nice and dead.Jean is always talking about the turntable as a musical instrument so I tried a combination of wood and glue.It would require me to take it apart to photograph the underside but if you really want me to do so let me know.
