Thanks Colin!

Well, Sarge laid claim to this one this afternoon. She really likes it.
She's in there clearing out space for it right now.
She has a nice little compact stereo system in the bedroom (phillips class d t-amp, little electrostatic speakers, cute little sub, solid rosewood veneer speakers, multi-binding posts, $150 at Costco); but it doesn't have any sort of phono-stage into it, just an aux. input. So, I just ordered an Audio Technica preamp for it at needledoctor. Its on closeout for $44. So, I'm going to use that to get us into the bedroom system.
Its really interesting to hear the transition of the old Shure M44-7 that came with it, which has been dormant for a while. At first it was stiff as all heck, and has loosened up considerably throughout the day.
The arm mods seem to be holding well - no error anomalies. Yea,.. good old garage retro-engineering worked.

Gene,

thanks.
this has proven to be a good fix to the arm bearing issue, so far.
I've been spinning it all afternoon. Right now, I'm spinning a baroque recorder ensemble lp, and Sarge is flitting all over the room; that can't be a bad thing.

oh yeah,... the headshell - what a friggin mess of incorrect wiring. At least they made sure that each tap had a wire going to it, and none were left without something on it.

Somewhere around the time that turntable was built, the color coding of the headshell wiring got changed to its current white/blue, red/green.  Prior to that there were several different schemes.  That kind of thing could get very confusing!
