Picked up one of these beauties about a month ago but the original plinth got busted up in transit, so made a 5 layer birch ply one and also managed to get quite cheap a Sony Pua 236 as mine come with a Sony ps x6. Love it but have noticed some noise coming up through the platter? The power supply is hanging freely and the turntable is screwed nice and tight into the plinth, any suggestions please?
Many thanks

Did you oil the bearing (via removable spindel)?

Cheers!

I’ve never had any problems...
Mechanical or electrical noise?

Been a while so thought i would give an up date, like an idiot i noticed that i hadnt checked and  the  transit screws were still in place,  removed these and checked i had a floating silver box, sounded a lot better but still a very slight hum, unscrewed the tt from the plinth so it was just sitting on it and nearly there, placed some cork nitrile washers i made under the screw holes and screwed back down and now silent. Have tried three different cartridges, a shure m55 in one of siens ali bodies with a jico sas n55 stylus, a tecnics epc 205 mk2 and a denon dl103s.
All sound superb but find the technics is my favourite. Very Happy with this turntable, just need to find some better feet as just using some big rubber ones but find there dont isolate as much as i would like, any suggestions? It is sitting on a sandstone shelf and im going to try a cheap diy isolation platform as well.

As shelf (panzerholz slab), interface I use 4x Sorbothane Transroter Speaker Pucks. I am quite partial to the Technics as well.  wink

Hello,
mine sounds great too, but it has a thing with the electronic controllers that creates an "annoying" hum when you slow down the platter or change the speed. Mechanically absolutely silent and the platter is incredibly smooth!

balsa wood, mdf and lead...

glued in layers

and together waiting for a second very long arm!

Unfortunately I'm not the electronic man so I can only hope it will not get worse.

Hi,

Where did you get the blueprint for the base? The document pictured on the first picture.

Best regards,
Flavio.

Do you think you could email it to me or send it to me via personal message here? I don't have access to VE and VE doesn't accept new users.

Best regards,
Flavio.

Hi,

I just wanted to mention that after years, I got my Sony PS-2251 back again. So i'm back into the club.

As mentioned elsewhere, I also got a rather rare PS-2310 belt drive that is part of the same series and thus has the same form factor.  It seems it was only sold in Japan!

What motivated me was this comparison on the 'net:

https://jelabs.blogspot.com/2018/11/

"The Denon DP1250,  Kenwood KD500 and JVC QL5 are mid-priced models from the late 70s, while the Sony TTS2500 was a first generation early 70s top of the line direct drive unit designed to compete with the original Technics SP10..."

"My most surprising discovery after living with all these turntables this past year was the difference in sound between the motors that power them. The DC-motor-powered JVC and Kenwood consistently sounded analytical, cold and forward, akin to a digital source, while the AC-propelled Denon and Sony were characteristically more laid back and warm, just like what I associate with analog sound."

"However, to put things in perspective, the Sony still outperformed the other three direct drives in key musical aspects. In particular, there is a "hardness" and loss of composure in complex musical passages that prevailed on the three units with the Sony exhibiting only the very least amount"

"Still, the TTS2500 could not eclipse the performance of the 301 or the TD124s. But it is the only direct drive in this group to come close in mimicking the stately authority of the esteemed idler driven classics. "
