Anyone directly compared a bone stock 2250 to their plinth modded version (but same tonearm/cart)?
I have a stock PS2500 with Grace G-840 running a Grace F-8F Shibata, a fine TT in it's own right. I recently completed a JN style 60 lb. plinth with Grace G-840 running a Grace F-8V body an with RS-8U line contact stylus. Both cartridges deliver very flat response and very good bass.
The improvement is significant and unmistakable; greater authority and clarity, broader and deeper soundstage, very defined and present bass, and great detailing and separation of instruments. Play classical music on the stock drive and you hear the orchestra, on the heavy plinth you hear the instruments. Piano, guitar, drums and vibes all sound authentic.
I've always found the term PRAT difficult to define but comparing the two provides a very clear example of what it sounds like.
