Please help, fellow resident experts.

My guess is one of the following,

1. Micro
2. FR
3. SAEC
4. Grace

I think it's a STAX UA-7cf. Carbon fiber replaceable armtube. Never seen one in the flesh though, so no idea how it sounds.

Wow.... you guys are super..... almost instant for the answer! The is truly the heaven for the analogue freaks!

How stupid I'm, I missed Stax......

You guys are right, this is indeed a Stax UA-7 cf.......

This one with the standard armwand.

This one is what I suppose to be the latest one with carbon fibre tonearm and integrated arm holder.

Hi,

It would have been easy for you to identify the arm if the headshell was on the arm!

What will you do for a replacement?

Cheers!

Tricky part is the arm does NOT come with the Stax headshell, that would be obvious as Stax headshell has its brand name print on top.

The arm I got have the FR S/4 headshell attached to it. That makes me mistakenly thought it's a FR arm.   tongue

Nice tonearm

I got one of these but a later model from early 80s.
The tonearm are made by Mircosekki for Stax, the armtube are termoplastic with carbonfibre there are two models of it 9 and and 12 in with copper or silver internal cable. There are an extra weigth that let you adjust the tonearm effectiv mass to let you use cartridge with lower compliance there are manuals on vinylengine. An fantastic arm to use deliver very god sound and versatile.

And yes you can use headshells with SME fitting.

I get mine restored by Stax for about 4 years ago and some of the parts I got was the last one they had on the shelfs.

Cool to know that it's indeed an OEM by Micro. I believe the UA7 and UA70 being the 9" and 12" respectively.

BTW, are you aware that there is also a Stax arm by the model of UA9 and UA90. I think that is a unipivot. Other than that do you have any experience comparing them, say vs the UA7.

Micro and Stax factorys was located wall by wall and they helped each other stax made headphones for micro and so on. My tonearm are an UA9 but some of my friend have the older UA7/70 like yours and all Stax arm from UA series are unipivot, they had take some different road to stop the typical rocking from side to side of the unipivot tonearm i have seen pictures of an prototype. I might have a picture of that prototype someware I shall see if  I can find it.

Soundwise they are very similar but the cf-arm have some advantage over the aluminium tube, but thats are personal taste. Compare to other tonearms they are good especially to other unipivots.
