Hey all,

I've been entertaining ideas, researching, reading and drooling over various high end speakers and from what I've read combined with my liking of fr drivers I would love to recreate something like the carfrae lbh's or a variant of them.

Has anyone any knowledge of any plans for such a project or similar?

Well Gavin, at least you wouldn't have to steam and bend plywood.   But you'll have a lot of oddly shaped scrap pieces to figure out what to do with.   laugh

I was hoping you weren't looking at more complicated curved horns... At least this design is quite inert and eminently doable by a DIY person.  The bass bins are probably trickier unless you see a cross section of those too.   Are there any dealers you could visit for rough dimensions?   If you had those, you could approximate the internal dimensions based on those and be very close.

You will need a bunch of bar clamps, that's for certain.   I'm very much in favor of the idea though.  What driver?

Hi Gavin, I can give you the plans for my Azura push-pull horn.  I thought they were on my website but the plans I found nested there are wrong ones. You could make the front horn as a 4 sided ply horn using the Le Cleac'h spreadsheet (I can send).  Takes a lot more space than the Carfae design, Probably not practical unless you have a decent sized room.

I've helped a friend build a pair of your bass horns Martin. Very rewarding even before I've had the chance to listen to the fruits of our labour.

I'm no timber specialist but all will be hidden by a splash of paint! So if I can help with advice Gavin, I'd be more than happy to.

And I thought I was crazy to suggest this!

SWMBO has said NOOOOOOO!!! It appears that my frugel horns are at the limit of size already so I'm stuck with something that fills that void now sad

After some deliberation I'm going to go with some onken style enclosures using my Alpair 7 drivers. Planet 10 have supplied me with the dMark-Ken7.3 plans. They can be stand mounted or, a matching bass reflex style enclosure can be built to sit them on so I can make lots of noise at all frequencies! I'm just waiting for some spare time to get started with them. My cars steering rack has decided to start leaking now though so I have that plus a some other issues to fix on it as well as my last uni assignment to finish first. I can't wait until I qualify...

Hi Gavin,

Look forward to watching these grow (especially on the bass enclosure stands)  smiley

After 'The Lenco Signature' I think it could be speakers next ..... or maybe DIY valves. undecided

I built a pair of Austin 166 found on the Frugalhorn web sight
http://p10hifi.net/FH/download/Austin-A166Mk2-plans.pdf
I was very happy with them, but they do require corners.
You can see my build here, not too hard to build
