Received a nice parcel from Germany today - thanks Chris grin - with a few pairs of ECC81 cool

Brimar, GE and a wonderful surprise...    Valvos grin grin grin

Put the Valvos in and...well...now I know what the fuss is about, increased sound stage and a beautiful laid back but highly detailed sound with stunning highs and lows, they absolutely trounce the Phillips ECG Jan 12AT7WC I had been using and I really liked them undecided

Oh yeah!   Phillips later production (or later rebrand) blue or green print will be utterly embarrassed by early production tubes such as the Valvos, be they red print or white print.   I wish I had more of the Valvos in my collection, but about 10 years ago they started getting expensive and I didn't collect enough in time.

A pair of GE ECC81 in tonight - very nice, good control and piano sounds spookily good but doesn't seem to have the 'magic' of the Valvos.

Oh man, a friend from London once said:"There´s no free lunch."
Can you have it all?
I shall try and trace some Telefunken for you - maybe they can do it all?
Cheers

Another day and another pair of ECC81 - Brimar this time...initially appear subdued and somewhat boring...or is that neutral undecided

I tend to find Brimars to sound like "calm Telefunkens".  I suppose they're kind of Mullard-y in their dynamics, if that makes any sense.

Yes, I can go with that, I was pretty underwhelmed by Mullard ECC81 in the Kerrs.

I've also got a pair of Pinnacle to try, plus a pair I need to identify (edit: I think they are Mullards - at least one appears to be) and some odd singles.

...I could easily live with these tubes, very nice indeed. It will be interesting when I put the Valvos back in...another day though...

Valvos back in - yes these are certainly the winners - I'm also amazed that they sound really good right from cold (i.e. just switched on).
