Drilled the armboard yesterday. Then in a fit of excitement whilst setting up, I managed to shear off the tonearm wires. I've ordered replacements and now have to wait a few days for them to arrive. Damn and blast!!!
Any advice on rewiring a hadcock gh228 is welcome...

I hope you are a good solder slinger I did my GH220 a few years back. The major problem was getting the old wire out of the arm tube as it was filled with clear silicone mastic. I used a long 3mm wood auger and knitting needles to get a hole through. Once that was done, it's just tedious delicate soldering. If your arm has the floppy rear plastic counter weight stub , you might want to upgrade at the same time. I used a piece of 7mm knitting needle, filled with balsa wood, and press fitted in the vice. A small piece of plastic tubing replaced the rubber grommet. Probably got a piece left if you want to try it.

It was pretty easy. I didn't want a glossy finish so only went down to 800 grit.

I have a couple of questions. Is there some reason that you made the top plate from metal? Could it have been of Corian, too? It seems like it would have been easier that way. Nonetheless, it is an amazing build.
