Its sounds lovely. Very clear and detailed with a wide stereo image and great dynamics - especially in the bottom end.

Is that how it looks?

Wow!

Really awsome, does it sound like it looks?

The top plate is a PTP5. I guess it would be possible to get corian to the 5mm depth required, but its actually quite a brittle material and I don't think it would take much stress at that thickness. Stainless steel is far more appropriate for that use.

I have a couple of questions. Is there some reason that you made the top plate from metal? Could it have been of Corian, too? It seems like it would have been easier that way.

Nonetheless, it is an amazing build.

hehe, yeah - kind of. But also I'd say it looks really COOL (but I guess that wouldn't be "lovely"^^)
Great job!

Just swapped out the spikes for Sorbothane hemispheres. It might be all in my head but I think everything is a bit clearer. Bass seems particularly good. I might record some needle drops with different feet for a more objective approach...

Correct!

The little plastic thing is a Raspberry Pi with a HifiBerry dac running Squeezeplug. Sounds great ... if you're into that kind of thing...

Looks beautiful and elegant. The whole room is very inviting to me. I have a Raspberry running XBMC and it works perfectly. Use it mainly for movies and series but works with music as well.

The black painted plate looks great. Will read the topic if there's more info on it. If not, please share.

Hi Tomi,

thanks for your kind words.

painting the platter was very straightforward. i cleaned it with alcohol, primed with a zinc primer and did many topcoats with a matt black car touchup paint. all from spray cans. only took a couple of hours and it looks pretty good to my eye.

Speakers are Rega RS1. Very nice but I occasionally find myself wanting a little more bass.

The cupboard makes more sense in the greater context of the house - bits of Danish teak and 60s/70s german furniture.

Indeed! The cupboard is a small monument of the fifties and sixties!
As is the rack with shelves. These were populair in Holland too, made
by the plant with the name Tomado.
An interior of today with some vintage elements is always a compromise.
So, I admire your black and white set.

The final major piece of work: a bearing overhaul and upgrade

Left to right:
1. Lenco bearing with Joly thrust plate mod.
2. Lencomotion bearing oil
3. polished spindle
4. new oilite bushings
5. POM thrustplate from Wer
6. sapphire ball from ISOkinetic

Bearing brace.

Fitted last night. I'm pretty sure the noise floor has dropped. To make sure I have recorded some before and after needle drops. Will post those tomorrow.
