Sad to say that I have been ignoring my Lenco projects.
This is the first of two builds that I have planned
Just a cleaning up and mild tweaking of an L 78 SE.

It's an EU table.

Today I cracked it open to swap in a NA motor.

I wasn't prepared for what I found.
Plastic galore!
Including the dreaded plastic idler wheel.

Looks a little different in there than the 70's and 75's

I think the preponderance of plastic disqualifies this model from a full out build.
But it's a nice table and I'm looking forward to listening to it.

Are you  sure the idler wheel is plastic? I can't see it that well.
Even if so, as long as the rubber is supple and the wheel round, plastic idlers are not so bad. I prefer the bearing on these.

Regarding the plethora of plastic, you could remove the parts which operate the auto mechanism and the rest will probably resonate less than metal anyway.

Your idler has two holes, so it's the metal one. I overlooked also  L 78 earlier but now after using one for sometime it's my favourite Lenco model: It's a nice feeling when LP ends and there's no hurry to stop the record player.

The 78 does have more plastic parts involved with the additional levers and mechanisms.  But, once you boil it down to the basics, there's not much plastic left.
