Hello evrybodies,

Few years ago I have built a L75 with iron wood plinth. I was enjoyed by the result, but now, I want do a new one with more transformations to improve it, and another one for a friend with an Ortofon tonearm equiped with a Clement cartridge.

I have decides to use iron wood again, I had like the results, to put a new idler arm slider with a stronghening idler arm like my B55 black & white of another topic, and the under of the under top plate hardly fixed on the plinth with a rigidificator part.

Here is my first try:

I am well advanced on the two plinths:

Here is the rigidificator:

And the rigidificator on his place:

The new slider:

I hope my work interresting for you, I'll post more later.

Pascal.

Nice work Pascal, I may use your idea regarding the strengthening plate for the  bearing. Especially as my plea for a super bearing fell on deaf ears. Look forward to more progress from you, chapot

very good, Pascal. By using ironwood, you have a foot in both camps (mass and damping). The problem with ironwood is specifying the genus/species, for even Wiki ** has 30 species (and 28 genera), all described as ironwood. Looking at your starting blocks, you may have more than one type, but I don't think that that is going to make any difference, just a note to others who may want to do the same.

I am having a plinth made to my design in Ipe tabaco, another ironwood. From the few I have tested, all have good damping, if a little frequency dependent.  Damping factor up to 1kHz was fine, at around 0.5 (an excellent figure), but above 1kHz it was not so good, but hopefully, of little consequence. This is a reflection of the hardness.  Another very good wood is iron bark, particularly the red type.

I like the idea of the plate you have made, you might try a little viscoelastic (VE) material between it and the top plate, and although the plate is rigidly fixed, the VE will still work as a damping device.

Hello Brian,

The wood of the plinths is Ipé, I didn't know that it was the same name in english, I just know iron wood, not use in france.
