Paul,

That is some amazing work and your skills really are breathtaking.  I cannot wait to see the finished speakers.

Thanks everyone, I guess Ill keep on going then. smiley

Someone suggested flame painting, much harder than it looks. http://makezine.com/2015/09/02/painting-on-copper-with-fire/

My very bad attempt, might go with it any how......not ready to do butterflies yet. Roll Eyes

Started pouring epoxy resin over the fins before I install them to smooth over any blemishes.

The horn drivers turned up yesterday.

Started thinking about the cabinet.
This is a very bad drawing of the basic out line.
Will be MDF with taped sided, will kurf the corners, so I can make the top, sides and bottom from one piece (hopefully) and rebate all the joints.
The top and bottom crossed out sections will be filled with sand (hope the floor boards handle the weight.)
And I'll brace behind the driver.
Will be using 7mmX 70mm Merbau slats glued to the cabinet as a veneer.
Not sure about the finished face yet, be something similar to old radios, but different. wink

Thats sorta what is running around in my head, may change before I start.....feel free to tell me if can do it better.

Volume is around 52ltrs, medium vented page 7 http://www.parts-express.com/pedocs/more-info/290-590-eminence-kappalite-3012lf-more-info.pdfvented box as per spec

Cross over at about 1200hz

Hello, just an up date.

Installed the faitalpro onto the horn, and they make sound.

The 12" eminence woofers turned up they are very big.

a minindsp measuring microphone and a 2into 4 dsp......dont know how to use either yet.

Had a kerfing disaster, the old triton isnt accurate enough, it needs to cut just right, bit ambitious trying to do it in one piece. Will have to try and do it in 2 pieces next.....need more MDF.

Bloody curves! See why most do box shaped boxes, nearly threw the lot in the bin and went back to the drawing board.....but persevered and got it done. Now I have to work out how Im going to clad them.

Thanks Keith, Ill keep going then. wink

Cut holes into the top and bottom voids and added some more wood for strength. Filled the bottom voids with river sand (after I dried it), to suck up some vibration and so its not so top heavy.

Painted the internals with bitumen paint, cause it seemed like a good idea at the time.

Bought some Merbau 70 X 7MM X 5.7M slats from the hardware, cheap at less than $6 a length and some pine cut to the right thickness for the curves.

Do you think I went too far this time? Sometimes I think I should be a little more subtle hmmm

BTW is it OK to put the 2 x 3" ports in the rear?
