Love my cassettes  grin

Use an old Philips DCC to play the analogue tapes and some sound really good (the DCC tapes are very good - a match for CD any day of the week).
My car has a tape player also so even better  cool

Good to hear they're still giving service.

Here's what's left of my cassette collection, I've managed to sell at least this amount recently but have kept these (for now). The majority here are live 'in concert' FM broadcasts from radio One.

I still have a pair of cassette decks, a NAD and a Yamaha, but rarely use them.

Most of the cassettes pictured here are Maxell XLII and TDK SA, every Maxell tape I've returned to has been fine but I have had a few TDK's die in the line of duty.

I liked the cassette medium, taping all your mates' LPs (ok, I know - naughty) making compilations for friends and recording stuff from the radio, I really enjoyed it. Didn't sound too bad either.

And I taped a few acts myself when I was DJ-ing with them, The Man Band, Steve Marriott, Squeeze and John Otway amongst those acts.

Groovy cool

Great collection! I traded punk and metal tapes through the post as a teenager (live recordings, band demos, etc) and ended up with a solid wall-full by the time I went to university.

There's plenty of new music that only seems to get a cassette release (though some of it comes with a download code cheesy )

Here's a short film about the recent cassette revival for experimental music.

I owned a CD491 harman/kardon for decades and sold it several years ago having not used it for ages...

Well, my Ex was bringing the kids around for summer vacation visit and I asked her whether she'd part with the seven MCs I'd made for her some fifteen years ago and she consented.  azn

I've meanwhile picked up a harman/kardon TD4600 as I eventually want to do some A/B testing and personally finding a recording of the experience quite helpful.

With this afternoon free I've finally popped #1 of 7 into the deck and am thrilled as to the content and audio quality (TDK 90 Super CDing). I suppose I've another 50+ self-recorded tapes (Maxell XLIIS) and the music just stopped mid-song so it is time to flip #1 over. What fun!  afro  Oh! And Tom Waits' Grapefruit Moon sounds sublime.  wink

Cheers!

I went through a variety of cassette decks over the years, including a monster NEAL deck. That was built like a tank.

In the main they didn't match up to reel to reel for my own recordings and pre-recorded cassettes were never brilliant (cassettes could cope with the HF needed to lay down tracks spooled at high speed). A Sony Pro Walkman was the one I eventually kept and it's still working fine.

Factory recorded tapes could be really bad. I think the industry never thought about this media as high quality - more like a cheap copy of vinyl. And all these physical problems - tape curling, felt pad collecting tape particles, danger to erase stuff with magnet etc.
I think that MD was way better format than CD - especially for portables. Very good was that you did not touch the media(some broadcast CD players like DENON install the CD into similar holder). And the player is small and has fantastic play-time on batteries. Also it did not have the skipping problem really. It is sad that the world went to CDs.

Do yourself a favour and check prices for various tapes at discogs... there are more than half a million for sale! And some prices are really insane
