Hi,

I recently acquired a lovely old Garrard 301. This particular unit requires some love, and after 50 years or so, that's not so surprising.   smiley

Anyway, the idler wheel didn't make great contact with the pulley, and it looked like the springs that were doing this job were not original and way past their use-by-date. I replaced the tension spring with something temporary, to prove that was indeed the issue.

I then ordered the "Garrard 301 Stainless Steel Half Spring Set" from Perfect Sound. This kit provides the springs for the idler and eddy current brake. Shown below are four of the springs provided in the kit (I've not bothered showing the very small eddy current springs, as they are obvious):

Unfortunately, since my springs were not original, it's not quite clear to me which spring goes where. Based on the manual, I believe spring B is the tension spring, and C may (or may not) be the retracting spring.

spring A - 40mm, part number ?
spring B - 45mm, part number 76 (tension spring) ??
spring C - 18mm, part number 78 (retracting spring) ??
spring D - 20mm, part number ?

Any help you can provide in the identification of these springs would be great.   grin

Thank you

A connects to the On/Off lever assembly, C and C to the idler wheel assembly, and D fits in the slot in the speed change assembly. I can provide greater detail with pics if you require!

Thanks TonyD, I appreciate your offer!    grin

If you have time and the inclination, it would be great, otherwise don't worry, just knowing where they are supposed to go helps a lot!

Cheers
