Got this recently and decided to give it a clean up and general check over.

Massive transformers and ELNA caps!

Hooked up the Croft to the Yammie and played a few LPs - loving the sound the Yammie is making through the PMC AB1s.
I have to say I prefer the Yammie to Bryston 4B-ST!

I must say what a macho looking item of kit. grin
I have a liking for Yam products of yesteryear and this one looks to be a typical classic. There is something Denon PMA 850 about this brute you have there and I say I like it.

Nice amp. Sometimes they turn up cheap, maybe less so these days but there were lots in studios once upon a time. Plenty of clean juice and pretty much bombproof.

Funnily enough one of the best vinyl playback setups I ever heard included an SP10 and one of these amps, in a studio where I worked at the time. Speakers were the small ATCs, I think the deck had an SME 309 and a Shure SC35C on it. Very nice - it's why I bought an SP10 years ago, although it never quite lived up to my memory of that sound...

Very nice. I've often wondered about Yamaha power amps - they seem to be a lot of amp for the money (or can be!)

Yes, brutish and powerful. The Bryston 4B-ST was struggling to power the AB1s and I had to crank up the volume pots to past 6 o'clock to get decent sound. This Yammie drives the AB1s effortlessly!

This one came from one of the BBC production house - was used when they produced The Jerry Springer Opera and then stored away. Still have the sticker on the amp. Got this one for a decent price and worth every penny!
And yes, built like a tank and powerful!

Yes, watts per £ - its a bargain!  laugh
Cheers.

Really good to see Yamaha PC series on lencoheaven!

I'm using smaller brother, the PC2002. "Smaller" is not the best adjective, since it weight 22kg:) Plenty of power, capacitors are of the size of beer can. This is one of the best price to quality ratio in the whole used audio market.

Do You use XLR or Jack inputs? I was a bit surprised with lack of RCA inputs, and my preamp is not balanced.

These are nudies of my Yammie (I've put a coin for scale, it is 1 Polish zloty, it has 23mm in diameter)

I use RCA to XLR connectors.
My pre is not balanced as well but it works fine.
Yes, the cans are huge! 4 in the PC4002M. I am still amazed with the sound it makes.
And at 43kg - this is one back-breaking amp!
I am looking for another so I can bridge them to use as mono amps.
