Hi.

Would really like some opinions before I plug in the soldering iron.

If the wires were just a little bit longer I would have soldered RCA jacks for connection. But as now only about 2 inches long, this seem hard be executed well. I’ve also considered 5-pin DIN. Rewiring is not an option for now.

My plan is to use this RCA cable with separate ground wire: cut existing plugs off in one end and solder the five wire pairs together and cover the joints with heat shrink tube.

This approach would be less flexible than RCA or DIN jacks, but on the other hand I do not tend to switch cables very often. The RCA plugs on the cable I intend to use is easy to pass through the 22mm hole where the arm will be mounted.

Am I thinking right?

I'd be concerned that pulling on the phono cables might damage the tonearm internal wires. You need to secure the cables somehow. If it's practical an easy solution is to fix a tag board to the base of the deck and solder both sets of wires to that. It's how turntable manufacturers often do it.

I am going to use this Aviation Connector Power Plug. I mount male end to the arm bearing shaft and out cables to female plug.

Nothing wrong with it
But you need to the fix the tonearm cables /transition to the other cable
in case of .....mechanical load (tear off) AND ...
You gotta take care of a freely swinging tonearm !
The most difficult thing....you'll see....   wink

I'd always prefer a fixed installation.....
Extend the TA-cables with flexible wires (like cardas)
And solder them to a complete fixed base...(plate)
Easy to build... but you have to make a cut-out at the backside of your plinth
Just as an example....

Oh...and btw..

A CARDAS insert would be nice, available in male or female.

Not sure if you could insert a DIN / PREH socket.  I did this with a Rega arm (after turning down the flange).
