by the way, did anybody try this kit?
Or is there  interresst for it? Because I build it and would like to see other opinions.
The info is free downloadable at the tubeland page.
best regards, Armin

After building what kind of results you get from that dicrete component (no opamps) solution. Do you find any diffrence in sound compared to opamp based designs ? . Do you made any modifications to original design available in web ?

its very clean and accurate and very low hiss.
The differential circuit design remembers me on the  elektor supra.
But this is a minimalistic version of it.
On the original kit I did no modification. I was wondering about cancel the BIP 47uF, because this not appeares in the supra.
But I was told that it is necessary for no  voltage drift.
In the dual board I made a thread for it, with some info in german and pics.
I belive that the voltage supply is the key factor for a good result here.
I tried a kit from china, an adjustable parallel regulator for +/-24V. It works very well.
This brought  me to the idea to create a special power supply based on TL431, using the application sheet.
This supply uses 4 TL431. There are 2  current sources with TL431, set to 10mA, each for positive and negative.
The regulators are set to 24V. But the final audible test is not done yet, because Im waiting for the 2x18V mini transformer.
And I will build it into a nice black alu cabinet 100mmx160mm ,and  the mini transformer in  a plug housing.
Armin

Thanks about information. It's propably that with discrete components design can sound better than opamp based. As you mentioed getting hum free power source for phono amp is one problem. Using rechargeable battery is possible to get rid of hum. Post some pictures when you get project ready.

Interesting little MM phono. Apparently it is available from Amazon for 18.50 Euro.

here it is, final in a small housing installed, togehter with the regulator, 70mmx100mmx35mm.
The transformer 2x 18V  40mA is in a plug housing.

The final  regulator schematic is also here, the current draw of the phono circuit is below 4mA, so I set the currents of the 2
current sources to 10mA, which works well, and with very low heat dissipation. It is a shunt regulator.
Hum and hiss is very low, and for me the sound is one of the best from my phono riaa preamps.

X1=680ohm
X2=2200ohm
Y1=470ohm
Y2=470ohm

best regards, Armin

Vous avez séparé le transformateur d'alimentation dans un autre coffret ?

This phono preamp has relatively high input capacitance and (as configured) very low current driving capability, so probably not really usable with modern amplifiers that typically have input impedance in the 10k to 22k range.

I already had it and was very satisfied. Clear recommendation for little money. icon_thumright

Hi, Can you advise a link to where you got your kit. As it has been out of stock at Amazon for several weeks & I cannot find the company on a Google search

Cheers Derek

Derek, the kit that was originally linked was for the IEC amended RIAA curve. They do a mono EQ circuit which is presumably the standard RIAA curve so make sure you check the description before buying!
This is probably the one you want: https://www.tubeland.de/product_info.php?products_id=201
