...and the plinth has been cut.

In a bind though. My G clamps are too small.

I either use weight or buy new clamps.

And I ordered 1 of Brians 9" Fat Arms yesterday, in silver.  cheesy

Hi Steve.

Yeah I'm pretty stoked. I've bought clamps and put the first layers together.

I'm having to do a mitre job for the top plate. The dimension is 10.5 mm and I couldn't get a sheet of material that thick. At the moment I'm keeping the cost down or I might have bought a sheet of hardwood and had it run through a thicknesser at a local carpenters.

But, yeah, really lookin forward gettin it running again.

As far as i remember when i re-plinthed my original Lenco the top plate was the one that gave me the most hassle (it was a few years ago) once you have it sorted and with one of Brians arms it should really sing  grin

You may have said, but what cart do you have planned for it ?

I have a Shure M75, an AT95e(no like) another Shure but the numbers escape me and an Ortofon off a project with a blue stylus.

I discussed getting the cartridge plate with Brian and forgot to order it. But I will get that for future tweaking.

Mullard tubes for my pre are next on my list.

Poor info I know but although I've kept my love of vinyl going since I was 12 or so I've only got back into chasing the sound for the last couple of years.

Long story short. I know next to nothing about cartridges.

Here is the inside. Showing my partial, mitered top layer.

The plinth is pretty much finished.

Got to hinge the lid and I think I will veneer it.

8mm dia brass spikes - adjustable.

Her it is.

Looking good there Billy. You don’t hang about. Mines is still in bits though my brother in law has kindly sorted out the bearing and the motor for me. With the new bearing reinforcement plate, a replacement idler and one of Brian’s FAT arms in matt black I will soon be looking to do a rebuild using the existing plinth as a starter. Regards Fergus

Hi Fergus.

Glad to hear you are bashing on wi yours.

I'm off on annual leave for 10 days. Heading off camping to Avimore today... so I went hammer and tongs to get the bulk done before we leave. I'm really happy with how it went.

I was very impressed with it in standard form so super excited to hear it with the stock arm in the heavy plinth. Then the FAT arm next month.

Look forward to hearing how you like yours. Especially compared to your 401.

Billy.

Hi Billy

I have never heard a GL75 in standard form though I have heard my brother in laws rebuild. He did a quite elaborate build and it sounds really good. It’s certainly a very strong challenger to the Garrard but without comparing with same arm and cartridge in the same system it’s difficult to say. They both set a very high standard. Though on performance for price the GL75 is the outright winner. I paid more to have the Garrard serviced!

Anyway enjoy your holiday.

Back from camping in the Spey Valley. Roasting!

Yesterday I re-built the turntable to ensure everything operates and moves as it should. It does.

I've sprayed the top of the plinth matt black and the top plate has had another coat of the cherry red. It has a couple of blemishes but I'm ok with that. It's drying right now so, pictures later.

The red really stands out on the matt black.

I want to retain something of the original design. So I am intending to veneer the plinth with teak.

I've fitted small hinges to the cover but I had to plane 2.5mm off the width of the top layer to get the lid to fit nicely.

I can't decide if I should put the name plate back on or not. It's not glued down yet.

I've damped the idler arm with plumbers tape. Finished with duct tape to keep it from unravelling.
