High Vinyl Flipper
45 years of Ownership, that is a Rarity and well worth telling a little more about.
Tell us how it has evolved across the years into the Set Up we see it housed in at present, how many Tonearms has it seen.

If you're starting a club Keith, shouldn't you show your example?

Here’s some photo’s then. As it arrived from (not working) from BBC Radio Jersey.

Current state: having visited Angus (Phonomac), now working, serviced, recapped, the BBC box removed, plinth is 25mm Panzerholtz. Audio Technica’s top of the range AT1010 has been upgraded to ‘Phonomac AT1010 mk6’ which is a huge increase in performance over the standard one. Now with an AT-OC9 mk2 which works well with it. Angus’s work is superb  smiley

Apologies for the temporary kitchen worksurface subplinth and lack of dusting. It needs a good polish!
Think some might be on the camera lens also  Roll Eyes

The future.
Who knows. It’s so easy to just switch it on and listen to music
(well it would be if I had some speakers here – long story).

The only think it’s it’s aesthetics, I’ve never been a fan. Why didn’t they run the aluminium block the whole width of the sub-plinth and recess a hole for the tonearm inside it. It would look sooooo much better. Guess we’ve saved a lot of resources for the planet by not doing with all the SP10’s that have been sold.

Who knows, one day something like this may happen

My vote for probably the best SP10 I’ve ever seen, goes to our own Mosin. Info here:

It's funny, but i've been pondering on the aesthetics of the SP10 for some time and concluded that they got the appearance spot on.

The proportions are just so, nothing extraneous, no bulges, protrusions, levers sticking out, etc... just basically a square with a circle inside it. A perfect example of industrial design. Hats off to the bloke that sculpted the look.

How many other 50 somethings are still this attractive? https://www.technics.com/global/chronicle/sp-10/

Also bear in mind that ultimately the SP10 is primarily a tool, just like a tractor or some other piece of workplace machinery.

Hmm.. perhaps I should just stick to thinking about a new plinth, maybe building a shrine for my SP10 could be taking things a bit far.  wink

Personally, I like the way SP10 mk2 looks. The new SP10R is a bit too plain fo me... And I hate those blue LEDs with a passion  evil

+ one.
SP10 is an unassuming design with a small footprint and low profile. It will blend in with its surroundings and never calls attention to itself. It’s also eminently easy to operate. Few turntables can make the same claim.  evil evil

As usual,a bit late to the party, but here’s a pic of my venerable but pretty much mint SP20 imported from Japan.

She doesn’t quite have the torque or platter weight of her big sisters but the speed is always spot on and she just works all the time and sounds wonderful. Personally I love the aesthetics, particularly in the black crackle finish. In answer to Keith’s queries, i think the offset design is to allow different lengths of tonearm to be used, particularly in studios where 12” and longer tonearm were commonly used. It amazes me that this turntable is only a couple of years younger than my Lenco, styalisticaly (?) it looks a couple of decades more recent. grin

That's really nice. The plinth looks like it was done by a cabinet maker.

Sweet.

This might be close to swearing in church but I just put a P77 on the second SP10 I finished... (Couldn’t wait for the 1503 to arrive.)

It’s still a Lenco forum after all.

And this is my SP10 mk2:

The plinth is made of MU25, the armboard is CNC-machined Corian.
