So I have been enjoying Vlads phono with the buffer, noise free, for a week or so now. Really enjoying it again. I don't feel the bass is lacking anymore.

Thanks again gentlemen. The whole buffer build has helped me gain in confidence. T

Hi,

Today I have finished one phono with the power transformer in the same enclosure. For the transformer I used a metal shield from Aliexpress and this is helping in avoiding hum.
I recommend this shield to be used in any DIY construction.

This phono is for sale if you know someone interested in a finished one.

Regards,

Vlad

Hi,

Next week I will be in Birmingham and I can bring some kits with me if someone from there is interested.

Hi,

I want to share with you that I will make some updates to the current kit.
The update is related to the signal capacitors. I intend to use Mundorf EVO Oil because are in a affordable price range.

What other capacitors do you recommend?

Regarding shipping, I found a way to send outside EU the kit (PSU+Phono boards and tubes) without power transformer. The shipping is around 15 euro.

Kind regards,
Vlad

This is the updated version of the PCF802 phono ready for testing.
The power supply is also improved for a better separation between channels.
All the components are measured and perfectly matched.

I think is the best you can get for a decent cost.

I am the customer who bought the fully built phono stage in December 2023. I am now looking to make a few improvements: I have already found my favourite tubes (Mullard-manufactured NOS Philips).

The first step will be to replace the coupling capacitors (2x 1uF, 2x 0.33uF). I currently have the stock Miflex MKPs fitted. Top candidates are:

- Audio Note Tin Foil oil-filled Mylar
- Mundorf M-CAP EVO Silver/Gold/Oil

I am currently tending towards the Audio Notes, as used in AN UK‘s Level 1 amps.

Any views?

Budget is up to 200€.

Upgrading the coupling capacitors can probably improve the sound.  I haven't tried your top candidates, so I can't comment on that.

If your kit doesn't have mica capacitors in the RIAA correction circuit then upgrading to these is not expensive, but can give a surprisingly large improvement.

Me and Arndt have tried this power supply and found that it gave a substantial imrpovement: https://www.lencoheaven.net/forum/index.php?topic=37049.msg498797#msg498797
