Ok bought it.

Justified the cost by suggesting that my 4-year-old could look at other things like leaves and dead insects using it. If the posted pictures of the styli above are anything to go by, this little device will have many more uses than just inspecting stylus tips.

You'll be very pleased with your purchase Mike  smiley
Check earlier in the thread for tips on taking pics. It takes a little practice and patience.

If your looking at dead insects prepare for a shock  shocked They look seriously scary. I found a dead crane fly. It looked like something out of the Alien films.  laugh

Yes Allan, noted!

I'll preview any possibly scare or disturbing things before my little daughter gets her eyeful - don't want her getting nightmares.

Back on-topic, it will be interesting to see if one can ascertain groove-wear on 78s using this device.

Mike, Good idea to look before showing your daughter. I couldn't get the alien image out of my brain for a few days  cry

I tried to look at vinyl grooves but to no avail. The black background doesn't help, even with the led light at max. All I could get was a blur with reflections from the led. Post some pics if you manage to do better than I did.
