Thank you Donald!

It would help I guess if I would get around to getting some speakers... shocked

I'm using headphones these days - a pair of Heil ESS that are quite good for the $60 they cost me, and Pryma (Sonus faber) that are great sounding but tiring to wear after about an hour. I need to find some speakers that will shine with a one-of-a-kind Don Garber el34 push-pull amp....perhaps another project that will take me 120 days to complete!

(I'm actually thinking about Voxativ Hagen monitors, but have never heard them...I just love the idea.)

Hello Robert,
a very nice restoration of a real classic. I congratulate you. It was worth it, as it looks.
Your ancestors can be satisfied.   angel

About your interest in the mini-voxative. Have you heard the speaker? The technical data looks fanciful. To get the claimed bass out of such a cabinet at this efficiency is simply not physically possible passively. Even at this price.

The 8" full range speakers are good but completely overpriced. I went to the demonstrations at the High End in Munich for years. The 8" speakers are good but not that good.

Best regards and happy easter

I'd wait 3 years to see this turn out so beautifully. Nice work on beating covid, and also respecting and honoring audio classics and getting them performing to their best. Jolly fine show. Enjoy that classic for all it's capable of, daily. And relax in it's musical effortlessness.

Thanks Kent!

Up next for the deck is a Grey 108 with a GE RPX cart to handle mono duties.

The TD 124 is a remarkable deck. And the guy who restored and improved it is only 5 hours from you in Tennessee: Greg Metz, STS Turntables. Highly recommended for work on Thorens, Garrard and tonearm restoration too. One of the great gentlemen in our hobby.

Robert, congratulations for this beautiful restoration.
I recently bought a 124/II and am about to restore it myself.
I just want to do basic motor servicing without replacing the bushings. Do you have any advice for this?

And a second question: Ho can I take the black spring steel out of the speed switch assembly?

Thanks a lot in advance for your help.
Cheers!

Hi Bernd,

Sorry! I'm just seeing this now, as i am no longer very active on LH. Well, not active at all. There are too many posters here driving people away with their arrogance. I want to enjoy this hobby, not defend my preferences...wink

So, about the 124: i have no idea how to do what you ask. I hired Greg Metz from STS to do the restoration of the 'table, as i quickly realized that the 'table was too valuable to risk me wrecking it!

I do think there are some youtube videos about some aspects of 124 restoration, but i don't know how much i trust them!

Good luck. Sorry i'm not more help.
