Hi All
I reply to one of the threads in this forum and one of the members suggest i introduce myself. My name is Michael Gammon and i am the managing director/ceo of Transcriptors Limited which was started by my late father David Gammon in 1960. He produced many turntables including the Hydraulic Reference turntable which was used in Stanley Kubricks 'A Clockwork Orange', this turntable was then licensed to J A Michell Engineering in 1973 until November 1977 when my father cancelled the agreement. His other designs include the Saturn (1968 - 1973), Skeleton (1973 - 1977), Round (1975) and the Transcriber (1977 - 1981) turntables and the Fluid Arm (1960 - 1973), Saturn Arm (1968 - 1973) and the Vestigal Arm (1973 -1981). The hydraulic reference is currently on show in New York at the MOMA which my father donated in 1969. Also he designed the Electronic Reference turntable but he had already signed the deal with Michell who went on to produce it under his branding.
The company was run at Holloway Road, London then moved to 2 Theobald Street Boreahamwood until 1973 when we moved to ireland and Michell took over the premises.
Previous to starting the company back up i worked as a cnc programmer in the injection moulding industry. I was contacted by an collector in Florida and suggest i put a page up on the history of my father and the company, after that everything took off from selling spares, servicing and now to the point that we produce three models including the Reference Series II.
There is more information and pictures at our web site.
Regards
Michael Gammon

Michael, Welcome to Lenco Heaven. Your father produced a real all time classic turntable, a turntable which I have also owned and collected in the past. The design is timeless, and its really one turntable I regret selling to another collector when I was in London moving back to Hong Kong. Welcome to share more about the Transcriptors history and current products. It would be interesting to hear your thoughts on whether your company would consider making an idler turntable. BTW - do you still sell those long hair brush for collecting dust off the record and also the shorter one for cleaning the stylus - love to buy them for my own turntable.

great to have you here Michael
I really Like the look of the new black turntable you designed!
The model "Round" produced only in 1975 - never seen one for real - was it a very small production run? a UK only?

That will be the T6 turntable. As for the Round table, that was designed as there were questions being asked about the rising costs of hi-fi components, so my father designed the Round which was made in Carlow, Ireland and sold for a mere £35.00 in 1975. it used the same main bearing and platter as the hydraulic reference, the tone arm used ruby pivots as on all the previous tone arms. However only 300 were made and shipped worldwide as there was not much take up for some strange reason ?? however they wished they had as they fetch quite a lot if they ever come up for sale. I have heard rumors that once changed hands for £2000. Michael

Very nice. I still have a Michell Focus unipivot arm which owes much to Transcriptors design I think.

Hello Michael, I previously made a post regarding an old tonearm that is suspected to be an early version of your late father's vestigal tonearm. A fellow writer suggested it might have been when your father was still an employee of Almer Components. Would you have any records of old prototypes or early versions? I cannot seem to find anything online and I would be interested in knowing more about this. At this point I changed internal cables and brushed it up a bit - apart from that it seems original. It sound very good - even though I am not familiar with how to fine tune the counter weights. If you are interested in having a look and/or would like me to send images, please send me a message and I will do so. My post can be found here (with the original images - in unpolished state): https://www.lencoheaven.net/forum/index.php?topic=44836.0Best Regards Jesper

It might be better if you emailed Michael, Jasper, or searched the company online. This topic is almost 15 years old now and he hasn't logged into Lenco Heaven since 2010.
