Good day!
A great turntable. I own the 1219 and usually use the Shure M44E phono cartridge.

One question: are you sure that your M55 mounts the correct needle? It appears to be an N75EJ. It goes into the cartridge body, yes, but is the angle exactly right?

Enjoy your 1229.

As one can easily see the needle insert is right there on spot.

The blue plastic handle seems to be a bit off track symmetrically compared to the system body though.

But since there is just one way to put the insert in the system body everything is OK.

It would not sound the way it does if there was anything wrong with the position of the insert in the system either.  wink

Cheers,
Matthias

Good day, Matthias.

Your photos have confirmed what I assumed. Yes, the needle that mounts your M55 is an N75EJ. I put some comparative images, in this case with my Shure M44 (same body as the M55 and fully compatible needles) with an N44-7

First of all, you can see the differences in both the insertion angle on the cartridge and the positioning of the stylus on the record.

In these others, you will see the different shape of the needle (another fact: except for 78rpm, there is no green needle for the M55 and M44 cartridges)

Finally, here are pictures of those needles, in this order: N75EJ (yours), N55E, N44-7 and N44-3 (for 78rpm records):

Your N75EJ stylus appears to have been carefully curved by expert hands so that it is at the correct angle on the record

I don't doubt that the needle inserts into the cartridge, nor that the sound is good, I was just surprised to see that N75EJ stylus in that cartridge.
Like I said, if you like it that's fine. Enjoy it.

Best regards.
Juan

This is a Shure M55 I was lucky enough to buy from Malcom (Willbewill)

So far it is the best sounding cart in my 1229 tracking nicely @ 3 gr.

Cheers,
Matthias

That needle does not belong to that cartridge.

The range of SONUS cartridges that you use do not usually have any damping problems, I have the BLUE and it works very well.

The needle is not a N75EJ. The N75EJ is green and the needle installed is baby blue.

Feel free to visit me to check the sq in an extended audition.  wink

Thanks, Matthias.

Perfect, beyond the color, you have an N55 needle in the shape of an M75. Cool! Although... Baby blue? How the N75C? Roll Eyes

Best regards.

Great, Matthias, well done. The 1229 is superb. I'm happy with muy 1219. Here is with the cartridges I played with it (Pickering V15, ADC 220, Shure M75 with N75EJ stylus). Mounted is a Shure M44 & N44-7.

Yes, Matthias is a 2mm cork mat and the white stuff underneath is an EVA rubber mat of about 1mm. I have not had to do anything to adjust the tonearm height, precisely the 3mm of that composite mat is what has allowed me to compensate the height. Without it, the arm is slightly tilted forward. On the other hand, the cork and EVA rubber combination has interesting anti-resonance properties.

Regards.
