Hello Lencoheaven  I have a Wem Copicat mk4 tape echo machine which is very quiet and distorted when recording. I was wondering if anyone had experience with these machines any help would be much appreciated thanks.

First thing to try is demagnetising the heads.

Thoroughly clean the tape path.  The tape should be re-newed every gig.

With the Copicat connected to an amp with it running but no tape, check there is a healthy buzz when you touch the connections to the play head.   If there is and your volume is still low, it is probably a worn head.
