Hi!

I have trouble with a resonance in the platter when the idler wheel is spinning.

It all started after I tried to fix a wow problem and I sanded the idler wheel and turned the rubber bearing 180 degrees, don't remember what its called, Gromit or something like that . The one that the arm is connected to.
Before that there were no noise in the platter.
When I inspected the idler wheel I saw that it had I a kind of whobble to it when it was spinning. It don´t seem to have a smooth line.
I wonder if it just the idler wheel or if the arm needs adjustment after shifting the rubber bearing and if so, how do I adjust and align the arm?

Im grateful for any input.

Are the little bits that hold the wheel on the axle snug enough?
No adjustment after the grommet twist required, unless you've inadvertently bent the arm....

Well, you have successfully increased the grip of the idler and possibly worsened the geometry? Perhaps turn back the grommet? The idler does not run tangentially on the platter, but "erases" and generates vibrations, I suppose.

Best regards

You most likely got the rubber on the wheel out of round when you sanded it. Turning the grommet will not cause what you are describing, a loose wheel or out of round rubber is the likely suspect.

Thank you all!

Well I didn't bend the arm (I think). I have tried to change its position while the wheel is spinning against the platter without any change in resonance.
.
I think I sanded it out of round but the wheel itself is a bit "whobbly" too. Well that's one not working.

Anyway, I ordered a new one from youvinylmevinyl wich was a real disappointment. It was more wobbly than the original due to a failure in production, the hole in the middle for the arm was drilled out of line. Do not recommend.

But now I'm thinking of trying to make a new brasspiece with a new center hole for the wheel from youvinylmevinyl but is it worth trying? How exact must it be drilled? Anyone with any experience from this?

place the original idler in a drill chuck when sanding - also good check for wobble - might be possible to sand it straight?

sand to a v-shaped edge

Thank you Henrik for the photo.

I have tried that as well but the wheel itself is a little bit wobbly so the shape becomes uneven.
Sien advised me to buy a new wheel on eBay together with the arm. Is it worth to buy a used one, regarding the price I guess it is so that makes it interesting of course but I don´t want the same problem again. Is this a common problem with older idler wheels?

Try turning the grommet back 90 degrees

Pictures might help a diagnosis.
