I've had this L75 for about a year having bought from the marketplace here but I've only just got round to starting to restore and rebuild it. I'm in the process of going through all the how to guides for wiring, earthing, lubricating etc and I am currently finishing the plinth off prior to painting the top plate (colour to be decided).
The plinth frame is constructed from 18mm Birch ply whilst the plinth top and base are made from 25mm Birch ply, the base has some ventilation holes, I don't know if this a good or bad idea but they're done. The wood finish has yet to be decided also.
I need a new affordable/ good value cartridge, and a new tone arm lift, I actually purchased one on ebay but the seller failed to deliver so will sort another this week.

Thanks

John

So basically a hollow 6-sided box?
I don't know if that's a good idea or not, maybe it will depend on where it sits in the room.
If it resonates noticeably you could probably beef it up with cross-bracing or whatnot.
Good luck with your project!

Essentially, yes, it's based pretty much on the original plinth design but with better quality, heavier materials. We shall see regards sound but if standard L75's sound good I hope this will too

So after a few mishaps and life getting in the way it's up and running and sounding pretty good to be honest. I used most of the guides here, serviced, rewired, earthed etc. Malcolm (Willbewill) supplied the Linn cartridge with AT stylus. Currently running through an old Musical Fidelity amp and some vintage Spendor SA1 speakers. The design is essentially a very heavyweight version of the original plinth and seem to work very well.

beautiful - great looking TT - a hollowbox can sound very nice if done right - I have both a PTP and a hollow box - and use them both

cheers

Thanks all, I'm actually really surprised how it sounds, I have an old Linn LP12 which may be relegated to second place. It was only really possible with the guides, help and inspiration from here.

I'm contemplating building some speakers, what could possibly go wrong.

No suspension. 18mm Birch ply sides, 25mm birch ply top panel, 25mm Birch ply base panel, both attach to internal steel /aluminium brackets. Sorbothane rubber feet.
