I put a new Audio Technica M95E on my 1974 Leak branded Lenco GL75 and it now sounds quite superb! I went for a modern headshell with the great value Tonar and it was very easy to set-up! I am very impressed at the sound now and will upgrade to the ML stylus next once I get a bit more decent vinyl to play.

Nice! Looks good too!

I have an AT also, but the variant that You fasten from under - since I use the original headshell. (it´s the cheapest of the elliptic styli)

AT:s are brilliant value, I think, for Lencos.

I am though, as You I presume, curious of how the better styli would sound. Await Your report with expectation!!

Cheers

The VM95 are great.  Competent, solid, just there to do their job.  I track them (have the C, E and ML styli) at 2.5, not the recommended 2 grams.  With the C and E styli I find at 2.5 any sibilance or IGD issues dissappear.  The ML sounds perfect everywhere (including at 2 grams) as ML styli always do.

If you're handy at all, consider taking the VM95 body, remove the top sticker, loosen the single phillips screw that holds the mounting piece to the body, quick clean the parts with rubbing alchohol, squeeze some super glue on the insides of the plastic mounting piece, then reattach to the body and secure with the screw.  This 3 minute tweak has made all of my VM95 bodies sound better.   (if you do the tweak you'll see that "as delivered" the way the mounting piece is attached to the body is far from secure)

If you're curious about the ML, it sounds how the ML sounds on every cartridge that has one - very clean, uncongested, no tracking distortion of any kind, no sibilance (unless its on the record) maintains its "as new" sound thoughout its useful life and can make some dull and tired records sound fresh again.   The ML tips contact "wings" are very fragile so not the best for someone with butter fingers... but at the give-away price AT charges for the VM 95 stylus its crazy not to have one.

Cheers, Pat

I like the Audio Technica VM series of cartridges a lot and own both the VM95E and a VM95ML.

Imo they're both very good and excellent value for money. Is the ML version worth the extra money? I can only offer a subjective opinion but I'd say 'Probably'.

The 95E, imo, is a fabulous budget cartridge and - again imo - although the difference in playback is easily heard between the two cartridges it's relatively minor compared to the difference in cost.

I have four turntables of which two are Lenco L75s both with Linn LV-V arms, I don't have any standard L75 arms. I've used the 95E and 95ML in all four turntables with pleasing results.
