Hi Dmitry.

Yes, a lot of work in one sense. But actually, only a couple of hours, and a sore back from leaning close too much. (I am very tall).
Financially - the £13 cost of the knackered cartridge - it was worth it, just for the learning experience.

Does anybody with a better skillset want the result of my effort, to tinker with? :-

Absolutely right. The simplest and most powerful generator.
The main mistake that the developers made was the neodymium magnet.
Yes, it is full of energy, but it oxidizes very quickly without a protective coating. There is no coverage here.
After some time, the coils lose mobility and are compressed by the oxides. The hole in the magnet needs to be cleaned.

Must have something to do with climate and/or storage.  I have taken many of those apart and have never seen oxidation.

Someone orders boron on SPU, and someone orders aluminum on Wilson Benesch.

The most amazing cartridge, from my point of view - FR-1.
Physically, there is a complete lack of consistency between channels. And he sings!
This is all FR-1

I don't risk rewinding the coils of this unique product. grin

Hi,

Does that means that every FR-1 sounds differently? Or are these difference so small you will never hear this?

Kind regards,

Are these the silver coils? Or were they only in the MKIIIf?
Is the simple F1 also wound like this or is this only the case with this particular model?
They all sound different but good, I always assumed it was due to the needle cut.

The sound difference is clearly noticeable. Each cartridge has its own scene.
The overall tonal balance is maintained, which is determined by a long and thin aluminum cantilever and air coils. The coil wire is wound on an aluminum core.
Silver is used only in the MK-3 model, but the winding method is the same for all.

I was always surprised by the difference in the channels, the left one is 6 ohms, and the right one is 9 ohms. This is a 50% difference in wire length.

There is something in common in the sound of the MC20 and FR-1.

I agree.  The MC20 Super is on my all-time list of favorite sounding cartridges.  One small problem, though:  The coil wire passes through the suspension grommets, which is how all SPU are made.  This is fine with the tough large gauge SPU copper wire, but not so great for the lighter gauge silver wire of the MC20 Super.  Eventually, it wears and breaks leaving one side or the other, or both, dead.  I have a pile of maybe 20 of these and MC30 Super that are waiting for me to rewind them.

That’s one I have not heard of.  I will have to Google that brand.

Edit: found one.  It’s a rebodied Denon DL-103!

Yes, amazing engineering and even better sound!

Here is a view of the silver coils of the FR-1MK3F.  The red circle surrounds a repair I made as the coil transmission line came loose from the solder joint to the stranded insulated conductor wire leaving a channel dead.

That FR-3 coil sure looks like it’s wound with silver wire.

That's right, this is a Denon DL-103 buried under a layer of epoxy resin.   cheesy
For example: Denon on the left, MicroMagic on the right.  grin

And these are his coils.

I made the end of the story with the insanely expensive Denon happy. angel

I don’t know how many MiMa pacifiers were sold, but now there is one really worthy copy among them. tongue

Composite coil made of ultra fine pure gold wire + 6N copper wire.
