I have a homemade arm.
Lenco pillar, carbon tube.
Used 32 awg armwire put in a cupper isolation wire in the arm tube and in the pillar. Where the wire is comig out of the tube ther is no isolation because of the free movement of the arm.
Ther is 10 cm isolation coming out of the lenco pillar. And rca connectir straith on the 32 awg wire.
But i have some hum/noise.
I have made a groundcable to the lencopillar wich reduces sone, but also to to the isolation wich also does a bit. But still some noise.
What else can i do?

I would take a piece of cable, connect to ground on amp/RIAA and use other end and touch metal parts of the arm to see if they are ungrounded,

Hmm, I always have fun with my wooden tonearms and Decca cartridges.

1. twist the two cables from the pickup for each channel.
2. if there is a screen on the cable, only connect it to the source! do not use it as a signal conductor.
3. all contacts must be secure. any poor contact will cause hum.
4. then play the earthing game.

If there is still hum, try another pickup or dismantle everything and start again.

With best regards

I ground the CF tube itself. I add a small piece of copper, which is tightly wedged inside the tube with a ground wire attached.

Hi David
I use the same arrangement but with a very small screw inserted to attach the wire to the cf armtube. Works a treat

That is the thing to do. Thank you very much!
