I have been having sibilance issues with my GL75. All standard, it was my dad's and I resurrected it. Just changed the V Blocks to new ones (replaced them a few years ago) but the tonearm still has some wiggle movement... is that normal?

I replaced my headshell, cartridge and stylus for a lightweight top screwing one with an Ortofon 2m Red. It sounds better but still has a bit of sibilance and some records seem a bit harsh in the higher registers.

I have used the protractor from here, and also a plastic protractor and VTA gauge to set up the stylus and it is greatly reduced but still there.

What am I missing or am I just chasing my tail?

Is the cartridge new? If so then it may just need some hours on it to loosen up undecided

Tonearm wiggle is normal, nothing to stop it.  I mean when handling it, obvs not when playing a record.  I have an om10 with a reloop stylus tracking at 3g which sounds pretty ok.  The diamond when new is not really polished and sounds a bit 'rough' to start with.  I always play cheap old discs when starting out with a new cheap stylus (charity shops were very good for this).  If it were a posher diamond then a good polish from the start can be assumed but the red is equivalent to the om10 (bonded elip.) so entry level grade.

Hi, The Lenco arm is heavy & needs a low compliance cart to work at its best. The Red is not a good match for the arm as it has a high-ish compliance at 20. You need a cart with a compliance of between 10 to 15 x 10-6cm/Dyne.

Best bang for buck is a S/H Denon DL-109 cart with new Elliptical stylus, you will not believe the S/Q difference you will get.

Cheers Derek
