Hello to the denizens of the Lenco Heaven forum.  My name is Rich.  I live in Plainfield, IL (near Chicago) in the Midwest of the US.  I have been a long time lurker in the Lenco Heaven forum.  I had purchased my Lenco L75 two or three years ago and recently found a roundtuit to get going on it. grin  I want to hear for myself if it will knock my present table off the rack.  It is a Nottingham Space 294 with a 12" Moerch DP6 arm/Dynavector 17D3 cartridge.

I had planned to use the Moerch arm but just committed to purchase a used MG-1 air bearing linear tracking arm from a friend in another forum.  Not much in the way of originality here.  I copied what some of you have already done. Here is my progress so far.  I am stuck on the armboard design as I want to incorporate the common 9" arms along with the 12" and linear tracker.

My Best,

Rich

Thanks Pat and David!

David, you are partly responsible for me purchasing the MG-1.  I saw the pictures of it mounted on your table and read your insightful posts on it.  I see you had/have a Moerch DP-6?  Should I just skip mounting it and go right to the MG-1?  My armboard would have to be very large to fit both 9" and 12" arms.  I wanted the option to use 9" arms (like a Rega RB300) in the event I sell this one and build a PTP Lenco.

I have been spoiled using tables with articulated armboards and am having a difficult time figuring out where to exactly place one on my project.  The plans I have show the cutout under the original arm position.  That puts it very close to the platter.  I am guessing I just need to move away from the platter while keeping the recommended 222mm pivot to spindle distance for the Rega arm.

That's a great start.  I think, like others who have walked your same path, that you'll have entirely too much fun building up the new (old) table.  It's nice to bring some fun and wide eyed wonderment back into audio.

Good luck as you progress!   smiley

Hi Rich,
So you're not going for the traditional look then!  Serious bit of metalwork already.  Looking forward to seeing how this develops.

Cheers, Ian

Thanks Scott!  Some days it makes my head hurt, but I am enjoying the build.

Ian, yes, after checking out the projects here I kind of like the minimal look of the top plate.  That angle I made on the right means something, I just haven't figured out what. grin  You built that beautiful Black and Chrome Stanley.  The bar is set high here, hope I don't screw it up.

Stanley was the project that got me interested, you sure nailed that build Ian.   wink Kiss

I've made some progress.  I decided to install the MG-1 arm at the rear, so the arm board hangs off the back of plinth slightly (around 7/16" / 11mm).  The MG-1 popped up used after I made the cuts.  I had planned to use a 12" arm with an opion for installing a 9" arm.  I'll still add a Rega arm board to the right....for when I sell it and build a PTP Lenco. grin

The plinth is just screwed together yet, but I couldn't resist taking it for a spin.  I had to add a quick and dirty ground to silence a hum as I haven't installed a grounded power cable yet.  An old NOS Acutex cartridge is mounted...didn't want to take chances with my 17D3 until I am more familiar with this arm.  Wow, now I finally hear what all the Lenco fuss is about.  The PRAT and dynamics are excellent.  I read the NG-1 arm was light on bass, well that is not the case here.  Just wow.

I hope to apply a fine finish that the table deserves.  Just to be a little different, I figure I'll cut angled corners and bevel the top and bottom layers and paint it.  I'll call it Beveley.  If I screw up, I'll name it Slants.

Hi Rich,

Just saw this thread, looking good. smiley What’s with the diagonal masking tape? It suggests some interesting design feature or decoration in the planning.

Also any hints on the best place to find roundtuit’s? I’m looking for a couple. angel

Hey, that might be the first top plate we've seen cut like that.   Cool.   cool

Thank you Xander!  I am thinking of painting it Black, although natural would be a lot less work.  I haven’t decided on round or bevel cuts on the plinth.  Maybe I’ll 45 degree the corners.

Cheers Paul,

Thanks Paul!  Roundtuits are scarce!

The tape is just for marking where I will place the armboard for a pivoted arm without marking up the wood surface.  I was going to do a 12” and 9” arm position, but decided to just do a 9” arm position.  It was getting real complicated to have the linear tracker and the 9” and 12” arm positions all at the right side.  I guess it could be done but I am not experienced enough to do it.

Great job Rich, very inspiring for other Lenco virgins, like me.

I let this sit far too long.  I’ve had the Lenco for about two years, cut the Baltic Birch and left it sit.  Just jump in! All the answers are here at Lenco Heaven.

I was looking for a way to be somewhat different. smiley  EDIT:  Just wanted to add, I love the sound and feel when you flip the switch to turn it on.

Great design on your platter. I hope to see it finished!  afro afro

Me too!  Getting it to play has been a milestone.
