Yes, but some stylus cantilevers do not like wet play. Especially so with Ortofon. And wet playing records increases surface noise.
Aluminium is corrosion resistant, titanium too. Aluminium naturally forms a skin of aluminium oxide that stop further corrosion. You cantilever may
look as if it was corroded and about to die, but it will stay chemically stable. Now, the glue that holds the stylus could be compromised, but folks at the VE forum have done the wet play method for years and years without consequences.
On the surface noise: You should not experience increased surface noise with wet play. Quite the opposite, on vinylengine one of my fellow forumers tested the noise floor of a record being wet-played versus dry-played. Noise was measured to be significantly lower, IMD and harmonic distortion were also lowered. This is not a surprise at all, engineers have used wet play of records for distortion measurement for years and years.
Almost 10dB of improvement, which is a lot!! Cartridge was an Ortofon 2M Red.
NOTE: Please note that "wet" play here refers to play the record with distilled water and a tiny bit of surfactant. Do not confuse it with the LencoClean method which does have issues.
