What SUT do you use, which one is your favorite?

It didn't come across my mind, but you might be right on the point here!
Most bad opinions came out of mismatch.
Few of them based on such writings, but in the end, SUT might be harder way to implement and still, IMHO, more satisfiying (is that good spelling??? )

I fully agree! The issues with hum are often due to placement and grounding issues since most welll-designed off-the-shelf products and DIY products by savvy users are normally shielded with mu-metal.

If you are able to with your phono pre-amp, try a balanced connection - a fully balanced phono stage completely transformed (geddit?  ) my listening experience!
