The sun was out so more time out in the garden to get this job finished

All the veneer on & carefully sanded edges and I am pleased with the result

Next step was to cut a groove to secure the brass grill in place & as I don't have the expensive router / drilling rig for the dremel I knocked this up

Which did the job perfectly

Your homebrew router substitute is very clever!

You do a hell of a good job!

It is just my humble opinion as I would do it,
but I would have kept the direction of the
drawing of the wood the same on all sides.

But what I said, just my humble opinion.
The job you do has my greatest respect.

Thanks Rene I thought about trying to do all the grain in the same direction but with my level of skill I figured the smallest number of joins in the veneer  was probably the best way to go.

Mind you if I knew how much easier it is to get good joins using the pre glued stuff I might have given it a try

Also as I was doing this on a budget it would have needed a lot more veneer, but in the future I will definitely only use plywood as I really hate MDF but as it was only a £1 including cutting the basic shape it was to good a bargain to miss.

And here's a shot with the brass grill fitted

But I'm stuck now as I can't seem to cut 45 degree angles in the trim for the front and still make it fit the cabinet

I was wondering if anyone in the UK with better tools or skill fancies cutting me the front joints ( 4 of them at 45 degrees) I can source the wood moulding and as its really light postage wouldn't be much, but it seems a shame to ruin the look of the cabinet because of my inability to cut angles and believe me after an afternoon of numerous attempts I have tried cry

So any of your woodworkers fancy a go?

Started the Oil finish...normally I use Danish Oil but as I had run out of that I found a big tin of Homebase Hard Wood Oil in the shed which I think is designed for treating outdoor teak furniture but after testing it out on some veneer scraps I found it makes a nice matt/satin finish so beggars can't be choosers

First coat on

and looking good so more coats to come grin

Oh and before I forget my plea to any woodworkers out there who could cut me some nice 45 degree angles this is roughly what I am attempting to achieve.

So any help would be much appreciated

Well here's the finished for the moment version of the cabinet.

As I couldn't cut the nice moulded edges for the front of the cabinet I decided to just veneer the flat front edge for the moment until I figure a way to finish it completly or some kind person offers to cut them for me wink

But all in all I'm really pleased how the cabinet has turned out and it has given me the nice vintage 60's receiver look that I love.

Each time I do some veneering I learn something and I think I'm improving each time as well, but give it a few weeks and all I will see are the flaws in the finished piece but for now its about as good as I can make it and I am happy grin

Thanks for the help/advice & encouragement along the way it was much appreciated.

David, that is brilliant. Really smart job. I'd love one of those amps, I thought it sounded fab in your system. Now it looks the business too!
